High Adventure Preparation

Please follow the timeline below if you are attending this summer or considering a trek for 2010. We encourage units to sign up and start preparing for their High Adventure Trek a year in advance.

Summer/Fall

  • Obtain promotional materials about High Adventure Treks at Heritage by contacting the Camping Department on (412) 325-7921 or .
  • Talk with older Scouts about participating in a high adventure activity next summer and show them the information you gathered.
  • To reserve spaces, select your Trek destination and send a $25 per camper reservation fee to Flag Plaza or submit while at camp. This will be applied toward your camper fees.
  • Treks will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis from when the deposit is received. See page 14 for information.

December

  • Begin collecting camper deposits from interested Scouts.
  • Distribute annual health and medical record forms and set a date when they are due.

March - April

  • Send a $25 Early Bird deposit for each camper by April 15.
  • Submit all campership applications by April 1.

May

  • Send out final High Adventure Trek notice to parents.
  • Collect Annual Health and Medical Record from all participants. Make sure they are dated, signed by a doctor and parent. Make copies of each form.
  • Youth registered before May 15 save $10.
  • All remaining Trek fees are due May 15. See page 20 for more information.

Two Weeks Before Camp

  • Send copies (NOT originals) of all annual health and medical records to camp to speed up check-in process.
  • Hold an inspection of personal packs and equipment.
  • Prepare unit equipment for camp.
  • Plan to arrive at Heritage between 12 and 12:30 p.m. Check-in will begin at 12:30 p.m.

Right Before You Leave

  • Collect any remaining medical forms and ensure everyone has their medications in their original containers with a label containing the
  • Scout’s name and unit number. The Trek Guide, who is American Red Cross certified, will be responsible for distribution.
  • Make sure rides will be at Heritage to pick Scouts up Saturday by 10:30 a.m.
